The Instructional VideoAbout RickyThe Diary

Ricky Tatum

Video Creator: Richard "Ricky" Tatum (1951-2007) was a leading "expert" on the female gender during the mid-1980's.

Born in Santa Rosa, California and shortly thereafter moving to NYC, Ricky was the youngest of six. Losing his father at an early age, he grew up as the male of the household.

He later attended Harvard for undergraduate studies and moved on to teach at New York University for a small amount of time. During the mid-1980's, Ricky began to develop a series of instructional videos, seeing the overwhelming success of the medium in previous years. Renting a small studio and employing a good amount of his extended family, Ricky took a risk creating the series some deemed as "pig-headed" or "a step backwards in human rights." Although the series never experienced a large success, Ricky continued producing VHS copies in his home for anyone that showed an ounce of interest.

In the years following, Ricky continued teaching at various institutes and also acting as a freelance speaker. In September of 2007, Richard Tatum was diagnosed with acute leukemia, passing away two months later.

Webmaster: David Gwaltney, a film and television production student at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, is the nephew of Ricky Tatum. Within Mr. Tatum's will, he gave David full rights to his instructional video, hoping David might be able to find a new audience for his collected teachings.

"I do not wish to make a joke of my uncle. Although his ideas were incredibly outdated and horribly, laughably misogynistic, in his mind, he was doing the right thing. I simply hope to carry out his wish of finding a new audience, although I do hope they take him with a LARGE grain of 21st-century salt. "
